Magnet schools and Magnet programs offering theme-based instructional opportunities to students in grades K-12, living within the boundaries of Fifty.A. Unified. Currently, there are 330 Magnet programs located throughout LAUSD. All District students, including English learners, standard English learners, students with disabilities, and gifted/talented are encouraged to utilise.

The LAUSD Magnet Program is a courtroom-ordered voluntary integration opportunity available to all students in grades G-12 who live within the boundaries of LAUSD. The purpose is to provide an integrated educational and personal experience which prepares them to office in a diverse lodge, and helps to eliminate, reduce or prevent long-standing patterns of racial isolation. Magnet School openings are determined past the need to maintain a racially counterbalanced enrollment and by available space. Just gifted, high ability, highly gifted Magnets require specific eligibility criteria.
Magnet schools occupy entire school campuses (i.eastward. Francisco Bravo Medical Magnet Loftier School).
Magnet centers are co-located on a LAUSD schoolhouse campus with access to activities and experiences shared with the host schoolhouse (i.due east. Millikan Heart School Performing Arts Magnet). Some schools host equally many as 3 Magnet centers on their school campus (i.due east. Van Nuys High School Medical Magnet; Math, Science and Technology Magnet and Performing Arts Magnet).
District-paid transportation may exist provided for ELEMENTARY (G-5) magnet students if they reside exterior a two-mile radius of the magnet school they attend. The LAUSD Magnet Program offers specialized courses or curricula designed to attract students based on their interests while emphasizing bookish excellence, cooperative/experiential learning, interdisciplinary coursework, and peer collaboration.
Since 1986, 70-8 Magnet schools/centers take been awarded National Blue Ribbon Schoolhouse status. In April 2017, State Superintendent Tom Torlakson recognized xiii LAUSD Aureate Ribbon Schools, 12 were magnet programs. In May 2020, fifteen of our magnet programs were recognized by the national organization for magnet schools, Magnet Schools of America.
